Travis Hunter Cracks Up Jaguars Staff with Hilarious New Position Claim to HC Liam Coen

With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up with the Cleveland Browns to take the generational two-way talent, Travis Hunter. The 2024 Heisman winner will bring some much-needed offense and defense to Liam Coen’s Jacksonville Jaguars, and looks to have a significant impact in his first year.

Hunter was with the Jacksonville coach playing catch in the hallway of a Jacksonville Jaguars facility. Hunter, who’s already excelled at wide receiver and cornerback at the college level, joked with Coen and the Jaguars’ facility about a hilarious new position claim for the already two-way star.

Travis Hunter’s Bold Position Claim to Liam Coen Brings Laughter to the Jaguars Facility

Travis Hunter’s hilarious new position claim, while tossing the ball around with Jaguars head coach, Liam Coen, had the Jacksonville Jaguars facility in fits of laughter shortly after his entry.

“You know, I can play quarterback too, right?” Hunter jokes with Coen. “I can throw the ball, so like trick plays. Nobody knew that. I can really play quarterback, but I chose the other option. I’d rather just catch the ball.”

At Friday’s introductory press conference, general manager James Gladstone discussed the Hunter pick. He called the two-way player “a rare person ” and “a rare player,” saying that his selection also reflected the direction Jacksonville is headed after years of mediocrity.

Hunter’s college career was historic in its own right. He became the first player to win the Chuck Bednarik Award and Fred Biletnikoff Award in one season. He’s also the first cornerback drafted in the top two, and the first wide receiver drafted in the top two since Calvin Johnson in 2007.

Hunter joins a Jaguars roster where he is expected to contribute immediately to both sides of the ball. He will work alongside Trevor Lawrence and fellow wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. He also aims to strengthen a secondary that struggled mightily last season.

The Jaguars have alluded to intending to maximize Hunter’s unique talents almost instantly. With early discussions involving some trick plays, Jacksonville plans to utilize Hunter.

“There are players who have the capacity to alter the trajectory of a team… There are very few players who have the capacity to alter the trajectory of the sport itself,” Gladstone stated, via ESPN, about Hunter.

“For our fans, I’ll tell you, don’t be scared,” Gladstone says about the trade-up with Cleveland to acquire Hunter. “This is something I’m uniquely positioned to navigate.”
