After a near clean sweep of the college football award offseason, Colorado Buffaloes WR/CB Travis Hunter put his sights firmly on the Heisman Trophy ceremony. As Hunter hopes to win the Heisman, he was asked about what was next and what his plans were for Colorado’s bowl game against BYU.
His answer may surprise some, but it appears Hunter’s game for the Alamo Bowl.
Heisman Hopeful Travis Hunter Playing in Alamo Bowl?
Colorado’s dynamic wide receiver/cornerback has been busy this December.
Fresh off a season in which he caught 92 passes for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns, along with four interceptions, a forced fumble, and 11 pass deflections on the defensive side, Hunter was awarded — among many others — two prestigious awards.
The Biletnikoff Award came first, awarded to the nation’s best wide receiver, followed by the Bednarik Award, given to the nation’s best defensive player.
In New York City for the Heisman Trophy presentation, where Hunter stood as the heavy favorite to claim the biggest award of them all, it’s easy to forget that the Buffs have another game on their schedule this season. That game: A date with No. 17 BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl on December 28.
The Buffaloes, ranked No. 23 themselves, would present a must-see matchup — if Hunter and other stars suited up.

It’d been largely up in the air whether or not Shedeur Sanders or Hunter would play in the contest or sit out to protect their draft stock. Both are expected to be top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Last year, eventual first-round picks such as Marvin Harrison Jr., Keon Coleman, Brock Bowers, and numerous others skipped their bowl game to prepare for the draft.
Hunter seems to be in a similar boat.
However, when asked if he’s watched BYU at all, Hunter kept his responses simple.
“When I was flying here, what’d you think I was doing,” Hunter joked with reporters.
“Watching film on BYU. You know, I’ve been watching them all season.”
That seemingly squashed the sentiment that he wouldn’t suit up for the game, providing a must-see matchup between two top-25 programs. Hunter even doubled down on his potential status.
“We thought they were a team we’d have to play, so I still have a little knowledge on them before then,” Hunter added.

The Cougars were the team to beat in the Big 12 throughout much of the regular season, jumping out to a 6-0 record in the conference before their first loss. The Buffaloes, until a late loss to the Kansas Jayhawks, seemed to be on a collision course to match up with the Cougars in the Big 12 Championship.
Ultimately, neither made it that far — but the contest will instead take place in the Alamo Bowl, which has seen prominent college football stars Bijan Robinson and Michael Penix Jr. claim game MVPs in recent years.
Could Hunter be the next to add his name to the list?
According to his words, he’ll more than likely be on the field to give himself that chance to earn even more hardware in 2024.
