The winter transfer portal opened Wednesday, releasing chaos throughout the college football landscape yet again. Several running backs hit the portal on day one, including Georgia Tech’s Anthony Carrie, Michigan’s Benjamin Hall, and Ball State’s Christian Davis. On day two, we saw even more chaos.
Here’s everyone who hit the transfer portal on Thursday.

College Football Transfer Portal Day Two: Key Running Back Departures
Seth McGowan — New Mexico State
McGowan enters the portal for the second time as an Aggie, entering it during the winter portal period in Dec. 2024, before opting to stay in Las Cruces. McGowan enters the portal with two years of college experience, having played the 2020 season with Oklahoma and the 2024 season with New Mexico State. As the Aggies’ lead back, he ran for 823 yards and three touchdowns on 152 carries, adding 23 receptions for 277 yards and three touchdowns.
CJ Hester — Massachusetts
Hester saw career-high totals with 119 carries, 529 yards, and four touchdowns on the ground. The Cincinnati native is in the portal for the second time, after transferring to UMass from Western Michigan.
Savion Red — Nevada
Red rushed for 687 yards and eight touchdowns after transferring to Nevada from Texas last year. The 5’10” junior has one more year of eligibility after averaging 5.8 yards per carry on 119 rushes in the Mountain West.
Jaivian Thomas — California
The Oakland native averaged 6.3 yards per carry in his sophomore season, running for 626 yards and seven touchdowns on 100 carries. The 5’10”, 190-pound sophomore has wheels, breaking out runs over forty yards in three games.

Branson Robinson — Georgia
The 5’10”, 220-pound redshirt sophomore saw only 25 carries for 73 yards and three touchdowns with the Bulldogs this year, a big drop off from his 68 carry, 330-yard, and three touchdown campaign in 2022.
Brandon High Jr. — UTSA
He will be a hot commodity after averaging 5.3 yards per carry on 93 totes in a season that greatly increased production from his six carries in 2023. High hit paydirt eight times, making the redshirt freshman a hot topic of discussion.
LJ Johnson Jr. — SMU
Johnson’s 2024 campaign was rather underwhelming compared to 2023, which saw him rush for 576 yards on 5.3 yards per carry. After two years at Texas A&M and SMU, the redshirt junior enters the portal with one year remaining eligibility.
Richard Reese — Baylor
The junior has slowly lost touches in three years at Baylor, getting only 58 carries last year compared to nearly 200 and 14 touchdowns in his freshman season in 2022.
