The transfer portal announcements are in full swing, and while most players aren’t allowed to enter the portal yet, there are a few big fish on the move. While expected, USC Trojans quarterback Miller Moss is probably the most significant name thus far.
Moss reportedly wants to join a “championship-caliber team,” and while he was benched by head coach Lincoln Riley, he should have plenty of interest. Here are five potential landing spots for the now-former USC quarterback.
Where Could Miller Moss Transfer?
Moss burst onto the scene last December with a 372-yard, six-touchdown Holiday Bowl outing. However, as USC began to blow late leads this season, he grew out of favor in the eyes of Riley.
Still, Moss is likely to be one of the more highly coveted portal entrants, especially at the quarterback position, with several top teams in the market for a signal-caller expected to reach out.

Moss is entering his final year of eligibility, so he’ll be a one-year rental. Nevertheless, he’s one of the better pocket passers expected to hit the open market. Here are five potential landing spots.
Auburn Tigers
The Auburn Tigers were open about their lack of pursuit of a top quarterback last season and will undoubtedly be in the market this year.
It’s an attractive situation for top talent. The defense is excellent, the receiver room was completely transformed in the 2023 offseason, and the Tigers are playing more freshmen than just about any team in the country.
Hugh Freeze can be a challenging coach to work with, but he understands the QB position and knows what he wants from his signal-callers. The infrastructure — both on and off the field — is there for the Tigers to make a splash in the portal.
Miami Hurricanes
The Miami Hurricanes hit a home run in the portal this season by landing and developing Heisman Trophy candidate Cam Ward. While it’s not surprising that the Hurricanes have succeeded, much of that can be attributed directly to Ward’s playmaking ability.
Miami will be in the market for another top transfer quarterback, but I think the Hurricanes will lean toward a more mobile player. Without knowing which players will be available, the coaching staff will do their due diligence with Moss.
Michigan Wolverines
The Michigan Wolverines recently landed the No. 2 recruit in our 2025 quarterback rankings, but Bryce Underwood can’t be the only competent QB on campus. If the Wolverines could redshirt him, that’d be ideal for their long-term plans.
Moss would fit nicely in that system, though the Wolverines will also look for explosive playmakers in the portal. We know Michigan has the funds to land a top quarterback transfer, and Moss fits the billing.
Florida State Seminoles
Sometimes you win in the portal, and sometimes, you lose in the portal. After multiple years of winning in the transfer portal, the Florida State Seminoles finally stumbled, thanks to failed evaluations and misplaced trust in their transfer quarterback.

It’s painfully apparent that the Seminoles don’t have a difference-maker at the QB position on the current roster, but the rest of the team isn’t bad. Mike Norvell has also proven that he can transform a roster in just one offseason.
Iowa Hawkeyes
We’ve seen enough of the Kirk Ferentz model to know that the Iowa Hawkeyes aren’t an attractive landing spot for top quarterback recruits, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try to land one.
The Hawkeyes are a consistently above-average football team without ever having a quarterback, which is the selling point. That being said, it’s career suicide if Moss has NFL aspirations unless he can break the cycle of bad Iowa QBs.
If Iowa can find the funding to coax a top transfer to Iowa City, the Hawkeyes are a real threat to compete for Big Ten championships. As it stands, the next talented quarterback transfer will be their first, and I’m in wait-and-see mode until someone finally decides to take the risk.
