Netflix has announced a new sports series casting a spotlight on SEC Football across the 2024 season. The docuseries will provide in-depth access to players and coaches, immersing the viewer in the behind-the-scenes happenings of a season with the most prestigious conference in all of college football.
Yet, not everyone is excited about it, with several top schools not taking part. Which programs have shunned the SEC Netflix production, and what can viewers expect from the new show?
New SEC Netflix Series Will Not Include Multiple Top Programs
Set to be released in the summer of 2025, the show will be produced by Box to Box Films, who in recent years have produced Sprint, Full Swing, Formula 1: Drive to Survive, and Break Point.
“This behind-the-scenes docuseries will bring all the drama and pageantry of Southeastern Conference Football to a worldwide Netflix audience,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.
“Football in the SEC will be presented in a way never seen before through the elite storytelling skills of Box To Box, the content studio that has produced numerous award-winning Netflix docuseries. We are excited about this new delivery of content for SEC fans everywhere.”
But a few programs will be missing. Six, in fact.
According to Brett McMurphy of Action Network HQ, the list of programs who declined the production is highlighted by the Texas Longhorns, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Georgia Bulldogs — two of which have made the league what it has been for the past decade and beyond. The Oklahoma Sooners, Missouri Tigers, and Ole Miss Rebels are the other three to turn down the offer.
In theory, those programs likely declined due to the potential distraction the presence of camera crews in and around the team throughout the season might cause.

HBO’s Hard Knocks series is a similar model to that of recent Box To Box productions. Critics of the show — mainly players and coaches — don’t always love the company of camera crews in team facilities. But, contrary to popular belief, since 2009, 11 teams featured on Hard Knocks saw their win total increase from the season before.
Myth or not, we won’t see many high-profile players and coaches in the SEC when the eight-episode show is released.
Some of the programs that will be featured include the Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Florida Gators — the three latter of which had successful 2024 regular seasons — while the Gators have had a noteworthy season navigating whether or not head coach Billy Napier will be fired.
The six remaining programs, the Vanderbilt Commodores, LSU Tigers, Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, Kentucky Wildcats, and Mississippi State Bulldogs, will also be featured on the show.
With the absence of multiple SEC powers, these ten programs have an opportunity to open the curtain and showcase their values.
