Top Rutgers and Miami Players Not Playing in the Pinstripe Bowl

The Miami Hurricanes will look like a different team when they take on Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl. Which players will be out from this one in the Bronx?

The Bronx will be flooded with college football talent as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Miami Hurricanes take part in the Pinstripe Bowl on Thursday. These two teams have been hit hard by the transfer portal, however, and will be without a number of starters at every level.

Rutgers Players To Miss the Pinstripe Bowl

Rutgers saw nearly their entire QB room outside of starting signal-caller Gavin Wimsatt hit the portal. While Wimsatt took all but six passing snaps for Rutgers in 2023, only Ajani Sheppard remains as a member of the QB room, so depth could be an issue in this one.

Elsewhere on offense, RB Aaron Young (16 carries) and WR Max Patterson (1 reception) are the only two players missing in action that recorded an offensive statistic. Mike Ciaffoni played in eight games at guard this year, and like the QB room, depth could be an issue on the interior of the offensive line.

The Scarlet Knights defense remains mostly intact as neither of their three transfer athletes on the defensive side of the ball played more than a single snap in 2023.

Miami Players To Miss the Pinstripe Bowl

Unlike their opponent, the Miami Hurricanes will look like a completely different team in the Pinstripe Bowl. Miami lost starting QB Tyler Van Dyke to the transfer portal (and ultimately to Wisconsin), but that was just the start of their transfer portal departures.

RB Don Chaney Jr. was second on the team in rushing yards and had two scores, averaging over five yards per carry this past season. They’ll also be without one of their top targets in Colbie Young at receiver. Young recorded over 570 yards through the air and five scores.

On defense, impact players Jahfari Harvey and Chantz Williams saw their production and snap counts decline in 2023, hitting the portal following the season. While they didn’t see much impact play down the stretch, their depth could be an issue for the ‘Canes in this game.

Corey Flagg Jr.’s loss to the portal is a large loss as he recorded over 30 total tackles and a multitude of stops in the backfield. The rise of freshman Francisco Mauigoa was impressive in 2023, and he’ll be counted on to play a big role in stopping the Rutgers rushing attack.
