Offensive Lineman Favors The Volunteers Over Other Teams After A Weekend Visit

According to On3’s Steve Witfong reporting, the Tennessee Volunteers might be the preferred destination for star offensive lineman Gray. He told Witfong that Tennessee currently “stands at the top of the board” after his official visit to the campus over the past weekend. The schools clamoring for his services include Ohio State, Auburn, LSU, Penn State, and South Carolina.

The trip to Knoxville is Gray’s latest after receiving an offer from the school back in 2023. He was last seen there for spring practices in March, according to Rocky Top Talk. Gray showed off a behind-the-scenes look at his visit in a post on X, formerly Twitter where he posed wearing a black-and-orange letterman’s jacket while sitting on an orange couch which was perched on a rug featuring the familiar checkered pattern of Neyland Stadium.

The 6”3, 285-pound prospect from Richmond, Virginia, has excelled as a two-way player in high school, also logging eight sacks on defense. He’s also a solid basketball player, earning All-Metro honors as a St. Christopher’s School sophomore.

According to current rankings from On3, he’s considered the 31st-best prospect in the nation’s 2026 class. Gray has already visited Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Georgia, bolstered by his 2025 Navy All-American Bowl performance.

Gray’s gotten on well with the Volunteers’ offensive line coach, Glen Elarbee. In an interview with the Volunteer Country website, Gray spoke about that relationship with Elarbee and his staff: Our relationship keeps growing.

I think that’s one of the most important things. The first two trips, you see if you like it and want to come back. After that, if you enjoy a place, that’s when you go back three or four times. I just keep going and getting more comfortable with them.”

The addition of Gray could bolster head coach Josh Heupel’s squad for the 2026 season. They’re aiming to secure the number one ranked running back prospect Savion Hiter and top receiver prospect Tristan Keys.

It will be vital, as the Volunteers are looking to shore up the offensive line with freshman David Sanders and redshirt freshman William Satterwhite, who could fill in at center, according to Knox News.
