Miami Hurricanes alum and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin was present at Kyle Field to watch his former school defeat the Texas A&M Aggies 13-10 to set up a date against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal in Arlington, Texas.

In the 10-3 win, Miami’s defense was top-notch as they limited the Aggies to just 89 rushing yards. Moreover, they caught two interceptions of Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed. Meanwhile, Canes quarterback Carson Beck completed 14 of 20 passes for 103 yards and one touchdown.
Michael Irvin Emotionally Invested In Miami Hurricanes
Before becoming a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Dallas Cowboys, Michael Irvin played for the Canes in college football from 1984 to 1987. He won the national championship in his final season and was first team All-American the season before.
Even after retirement, Irvin has remained close to the program and Saturday’s bizarre reaction was not just a one-off. He frequently celebrates Miami’s big win. After a win, standout freshman wide receiver Malachi Toney shared that Irvin offered words of motivation:
“He just said keep going. Keep your foot on the net. Don’t let up.”
Toney also said that the team’s chemistry was important in the win:
“I’ll say we’ve grown together, not only as a team, but as a family, outside of football. We grown and we coming together… just really getting in there early, long film studies, just hungry to learn. The stuff you put did in practice it shows in the game. So, just how it work and our work ethic.”
