The regular season is at an end, and we are officially into the award season. While most of the attention is always on the Heisman Trophy, today we’ll be checking the top candidates for the Walter Camp Award.

Top 5 Players on the Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List
#5 Jacob Rodriguez – Texas Tech

In a list dominated by offensive players, Texas Tech Jacob Rodriguez breaks the trend by joining the watchlist. The linebacker is having the season of his life, being a bulwark in defense for the Red Raiders with seven forced fumbles, four interceptions, and one sack. He has also shown up when it has mattered the most, when one of his best games came in the decisive game against BYU in early November.
#4 Diego Pavia – Vanderbilt Commodores

The Commodores quarterback has fulfilled his promise as a true dual-threat quarterback in 2025. He posted career-best numbers in the passing game, with 3192 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Pavia remained highly productive with his feet, with 826 rushing yards with nine touchdowns. Slightly better numbers than his rushing stats from 2024.
#3 Jeremiyah Love – Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The sole running back among the Walter Camp finalists. He was the engine behind Notre Dame’s offensive resurgence throughout the season. Love recorded 1372 rushing yards, with 18 touchdowns on a whopping 199 carries. He also had impressive single-game performances, like against USC when he rushed for 228 yards in a single game. If the Irish make the CFP, he could get more yards to his numbers.
#2 Julian Sayin – Ohio State

Ohio State’s quarterback has had an incredible breakthrough season, becoming one of the quarterbacks in the nation with 3065 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Sayin is clearly only a pocket passer, with only 27 rushing yards. However, he has to be considered one of the favorites for the Walter Camp and also for the coveted Heisman Trophy.
#1 Fernando Mendoza – Indiana State

Another quarterback with a breakthrough season. Mendoza made the Indiana Hoosiers bonafied national title contenders, and with 2758 yards, 32 touchdowns, and five interceptions, one of the best passers in the nation. He is also a true dual threat, with 243 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 64 carries.
