Former Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders is preparing for his first season in the NFL. While he was not selected in the 2025 NFL draft, he was quickly signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This offseason, he has been working hard to earn his spot on the Bucs roster for the season.
On Wednesday, the Buccaneers’ training camp began and will run for the next few weeks. Shilo Sanders was in attendance, along with many of his fellow rookies. In a show of support, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders fulfilled his promise to Shilo and traveled to Tampa to attend the Bucs training camp on Wednesday.
After the team’s first day of practice on Wednesday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles spoke with the media. One of the questions that was asked was about what it was like to have Deion Sanders in attendance. Bowles made it clear that to him, it was no different from any other parent attending camp to watch their son.
“It’s a normal day for me,” Bowles said. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s a father coming to see his son. Like all of us would be doing.”

Todd Bowles Shares His Thoughts on Deion Sanders’ Support of Shilo Sanders
Training camp was not the first time that Todd Bowles commented on the relationship between Shilo and Deion Sanders. He also spoke about coaching the sons of former players in May.
“I think you’re always going to be a parent first and put your kids first. Every parent in the country wants to see your kids succeed, no matter what,” Bowles said in the same press conference. “I’ve coached former players’ kids before so this is nothing new. Deion understands the game. As long as their dreams come true and you get to see it as a parent, that’s really the main thing you want to see.”
Shilo Sanders signed a three-year, nearly $3 million rookie contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
