After the 2025 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans may be on the verge of making one of the most shocking decisions involving their No. 1 overall pick. Normally, a top pick is almost guaranteed a starting role—after all, the No. 1 selection is considered the best talent in the entire draft class.
But what happens when a team decides not to start that top prospect right away?

Titans’ QB Room Heats Up as Cam Ward Faces Competition and Will Levis Stays Put
That’s precisely the controversy brewing in Tennessee. The Titans selected Cam Ward, a standout Miami QB, as the No. 1 overall pick. However, reports suggest the team hasn’t named him the starting quarterback yet.
Instead, they’re keeping the competition open with Will Levis, their third-year QB who was drafted in the second round back in 2023.
The Tennessee Titans are not rushing to name Cam Ward, their No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, as the starting quarterback. Although Ward, a former Miami QB, is considered the franchise’s future, the team insists that he must earn the position.
Titans General Manager Mike Borgonzi clarified that no starters have been decided yet.
“We’re not gonna name any starters here, though, right now in the offseason,” Borgonzi said. Instead, the team is keeping the competition open with third-year quarterback Will Levis, who struggled in 2024 with a 2-7 record as a starter, 2,091 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Borgonzi emphasized that Levis still holds value for the team and will push Ward to improve. “There’s gonna be competition in every room. And he elevates the competition in that room,” Borgonzi said. They aim to build the best roster by fostering competition, which also includes veteran QBs Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle.

Head Coach Brian Callahan will decide how reps are split during training camp to find the best option. “It’s a great room we have right now with those four guys,” Borgonzi added. For now, the focus is on fair competition.
Cam Ward may be the future, but the Tennessee Titans are giving Levis a chance to prove himself once more, making this offseason a pivotal moment for both quarterbacks.
