The NLF Draft process is already underway, and the Tennessee Titans will be on the clock with the No. 1 overall pick. Head coach Brian Callahan had the chance to meet a potential candidate for that selection, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, formerly of the Colorado Buffaloes.
Callahan had nothing but positive things to say about the young passer.
Titans Head Coach Praises Potential No. 1 Overall Pick Shedeur Sanders After Meeting the Colorado QB
The Titans, by virtue of a 3-14 record, have the opportunity to select whoever they want in late April with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The lengthy, thorough process has already begun as the Titans research which name they’ll call. The consensus is that they need a QB after 2023 second-round pick Will Lewis had a disappointing sophomore season at the game’s most important position.
The two highest-rated quarterbacks are Miami Hurricanes’ Cam Ward and Sanders; both are reportedly in play for the Titans.
Callahan had a chance to meet with Sanders, who is present at the University of North Texas for the East-West Shrine Bowl for interviews but will not participate in the game or practices. The conversation reportedly spanned 15 minutes.
“You can tell he’s been raised right,” Callahan said. “He’s mature, he has a really poised way about him, and he seems like a really good kid. I enjoyed talking to him. And, you could tell he’s a guy who has been in the spotlight. He knows how to handle himself, he’s been paid money, so he has a financial perspective. It was a really good first impression.”

Sanders has been in the spotlight his entire life as the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders. The expectations have always been high — but he’s more than met them.
In his two seasons with the Buffaloes, Sanders broke several passing records. His 4,134 passing yards in 2024 rank first in school history, as do his 37 passing touchdowns. He also holds the record for most passing yards in a game with 510, coming in his debut in 2023 against the TCU Horned Frogs.
Callahan commented on what he saw from Sanders throughout the season, giving a mini-analysis to reporters.
“The thing that stands out the most is his toughness. He took some pretty big shots, and he kept rolling. He can stand in the pocket and deliver it. He can move and create a bit, he has some ability to move out the pocket, and he does create on his own.
“He’s not a high-end dynamic scrambler necessarily, but he is productive when he does. And he really has a good feel for anticipation and timing; you can tell he’s been coached in that regard. Those things show up on tape.”
With Sanders vying to be picked No. 1 overall by the Titans, it’s the things he put on tape that will matter most to the decision-makers — but the conversations and first impressions can also make a lasting impact.
