Titans Defensive Star Pours Love on Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

With the NFL Draft quickly approaching, teams must decide who they will pick. The Tennessee Titans hold the first overall pick and have had until the end of last season to determine who they will take with the first overall pick.

With prospects like Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter, Cam Ward, and Shedeur Sanders on the board, Tennessee has plenty of options in which direction the organization would like to go.

Titans DL Jeffery Simmons Weighs in on First Pick Options

The Titans desperately need help at all positions after finishing last season 3-14 and earning the number one overall pick. Many believe that Tennessee will use the top pick on a quarterback after Will Levis struggled in his first year as the full-time starter. The consensus name appears to be former Miami signal-caller Ward, but Sanders and Carter are definitely still in the mix.

In a recent Instagram post, Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons was asked his opinion on how the team should handle the first pick. The three-time Pro Bowler gave his thoughts on the three prospects.

When asked about Ward, Simmons said: “I mean, I’m a big fan of his game… the confidence he has as a player, you know, that’s the teammate you want to have, of course. His style of play is one of none.”

Simmons mixed Sanders’ name into the conversation, saying he and Ward are “great quarterbacks. We talk about generation quarterbacks; you could put them in that category.”

However, Simmons, being a defensive guy, is all in on Carter: “I’m also a defensive player, too, and I’ve been telling everybody, you know, I need an edge player. The Titants just got rid of one of my edge players, Harold Landry. You know, I wouldn’t be mad if we went and got my guy from Penn State.”

    Who Should Tennessee Take

Tennessee does have a plethora of options at the first overall pick, and while deciding between Sanders, Carter, and Ward isn’t easy, they do have to take one of them.

Carter is one of the best overall prospects in this draft if not the best, and while getting a game-changing pass rusher is super impactful, Tennessee needs a quarterback desperately.

Sanders has been in the public spotlight more than any other prospect in this draft since he took his first snap at Colorado. Although he came into this draft process as a potential number-one pick, he has been sliding recently in mocks, and some even question if he is QB2 in this class.

Ward has to be the Titans’ pick. Although there are doubts about his game and many who don’t like his nonchalant playstyle, he is the best quarterback prospect. Tennessee is starting a rebuild, and the first step in that process is to get a competent quarterback. Not to mention, getting your guy for the future on a rookie contract is crucial to putting established pieces around him.
