Sam Leavitt was one of the best quarterbacks in the country down the stretch last season, helping the Arizona State Sun Devils win the Big 12 and leading them to the college football playoff appearance.
Leavitt enters year two under head coach Kenny Dillingham and offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo, and it’s becoming clear that the weight of the offense is being put on his shoulders by his coaching staff heading into 2025.

Marcus Arroyo Sets Sam Leavitt’s Expectations for 2025
Last year the Arizona Sun Devils offense was mostly powered by All-American running back Cam Skatebo. In terms of national media attention, Sam Leavitt took somewhat of a back seat.
Going into the 2025 season, however, it’s clear that the Sun Devils coaching staff is entrusting Leavitt to become the focal point of their offense. In an interview with Devil’s Digest, Arizona State offensive coordinator Arroyo instilled some major confidence in his quarterback.
“His ability to lead this football team is going to be through the roof in year two,” Arroyo said.
Marcus Arroyo on what to expect from Sam Leavitt in year two:

Arroyo, who played quarterback himself in college for San Jose State also said that from his experience the game will slow down for Leavitt next season and he’ll become even better.
Leavitt already proved a lot in his redshirt freshman season after transferring from Michigan State. In year one with the Sun Devils the young signal caller threw for 2,885 yards 26 touchdowns and just six interceptions.
If Leavitt can improve the way Arroyo believes he can, then the sky is the limit for just how good he and the Arizona State offense can be next season.
Leavitt has a great supporting cast heading into 2025 and is being taught not only by Arroyo but also by head coach Kenny Dillingham, who is one of the best young offensive minds in the sport.

I think in 2025, there’s a real chance that Leavitt will lead the Sun Devils back to the top of the Big 12 and that the redshirt sophomore could be in Heisman talks come December.
