The Oregon Ducks received a big-time commitment out of the transfer portal when Tez Johnson made it official and committed on Friday. Johnson, the adopted brother of the Nix family, joins his brother Bo Nix for the 2023 season in Eugene.
Tez Johnson Transfers to Oregon
The Ducks picked up the commitment from Johnson in what felt like hours after his entrance into the portal. Johnson, who led Troy in nearly every major receiving category in 2022, adds a valuable underneath weapon for Oregon.
And a weapon that surely has chemistry with their returning quarterback Bo Nix.
Johnson and Nix played together at Pinson Valley High School, and Johnson was adopted by the Nix family during his sophomore year. Once Johnson entered the portal, it wasn’t hard to draw a line through the dots that connect the duo.

Doing the majority of his work from the slot, Johnson could be in line for a major uptick in production while at Oregon. Despite the loss of Kenny Dillingham as their offensive coordinator, the Ducks return Nix, a host of talent on the offensive line and at pass catcher, and now his brother over the middle.
In total last season, Johnson hauled in 56 receptions for 863 yards and four touchdowns for the 12-2 Troy Trojans. En route to winning the Sun Belt Championship, Johnson also toted the rock five times for 11 yards and even threw a touchdown pass.
He wins with speed as the name of his game, but Johnson has a terrific route tree. Making him even more difficult to stop, the former Troy receiver has the natural ability to create separation. That will be on display with the built-in chemistry between Johnson and Nix.
With three seasons of increased production and workload, Johnson has only improved as a college football receiver. His fourth year is shaping up to be his best yet.
