Breaking Down the Slate: What to Expect in 2025
Texas Tech’s 2025 schedule is tailor-made for a hot start, with three straight home games against manageable opponents. That opening stretch isn’t just about winning—it’s about building rhythm and showcasing new play-callers, especially offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich.
Texas Tech has officially opened its $242 MILLION football facility, the Womble Football Center, featuring:
• Barbershop
• Podcast studio
• New locker room
• New weight room
• Two-story team lounge
• Hydro and cryo recovery areas

Things get serious quickly, though. A Sept. 20 road trip to Utah marks the beginning of what could be a season-defining stretch. From there, Tech bounces between home and away in a rhythm that gives them little breathing room. They’ll face four road opponents in a six-week span—all capable of pulling off wins.
The home games? They matter a lot. Oregon State, Oklahoma State, BYU, and UCF all visit Lubbock, and Tech needs to go undefeated at home to keep any Big 12 title hopes alive. These aren’t guaranteed wins either—Oregon State has been scrappy, Oklahoma State is always solid, and both BYU and UCF are known for playing spoiler.
And then there are the prices—fans looking to follow the Red Raiders on the road will pay a premium. With the Utah game nearing $100 and the regular-season finale at West Virginia topping out at $112, it’s clear the hype around Tech football is growing. Even Houston, in what’s becoming a new Texas showdown, commands triple digits.
According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, the seven home games scheduled reflect the athletic department’s larger plan to engage fans, boost revenue, and create a fortress in Lubbock.
“This is a schedule that gives us every opportunity to compete at the highest level,” said Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt. “We’ve got the best fans in the country, and we’re going to give them games worth showing up for.”
Is Texas Tech Ready to Make a Run?
In many ways, 2025 feels like the “now or never” year for coach Joey McGuire and Texas Tech. They’ve got the coordinators, the talent pipeline, and—perhaps most importantly—the kind of schedule that allows them to build momentum and control their destiny. No, it won’t be easy, but the path is there.
If the Red Raiders can go 3-0 in non-conference play and steal a couple of tough Big 12 road wins, they’ll be in the hunt for a top-three finish in the conference. Most analysts agree that the Utah and Kansas State matchups will be the two toughest tests.
