4 Days After Ohio State Loss, Arch Manning’s Texas Hit With Another Roadblock As Defensive Standout Arrested For DUI

The start of the 2025 college football season is not going well for the Texas Longhorns, initially pegged to win the national title this season. However, the team lost its season opener to defending champions Ohio State and many are also questioning the hype surrounding QB1 Arch Manning. Now, the team has been hit with even more bad news, as one of their players has been arrested for DUI.

A report from Andrew Schnitker of local Texas news channel KXAN revealed that local authorities booked Texas Longhorns defensive back Wardell Mack into the Travis County jail on Wednesday. He was arrested over allegations of driving while intoxicated and has now been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), a class B misdemeanor.

The report noted that the bond for the wide receiver has been set at $3,000. The local news network also reached out to the attorney representing Mack and the University of Texas, though both parties gave no comment. Here is what Mack’s attorney, Logan Campbell, said in a statement:

“Due to the pending nature of the case, we have no comment at this time,” the lawyer told KXAN.

Mack reportedly did not play in that opening game loss to Ohio State and while he is now in his second season at Texas, he is still regarded as a redshirt freshman as he only played four games for the Longhorns last season, recording just 1.5 tackles against Florida.

New Report Reveals Texas Longhorns DB Wardell Mack Also Arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance

If that DWI was not bad enough for Mack, authorities also found him in possession of a Penalty Group 2 substance that has been measured between 1 and 4 grams. This could set him up for the additional charge of possession of a controlled substance. Unlike his DWI charge, however, this one is not a misdemeanor, but an actual felony charge, which means he may be facing some bigger consequences.

In addition to that DWI charge, an additional bond of $2,500 has also been set for Mack, setting his total bond at $5,500. It has not been officially revealed what that banned substance he was found in possession of was.

As for the Longhorns, head coach Steve Sarkisian is now reportedly aware of the situation, and the team has stated that they will be handling this incident internally.

It is unclear if Mack, a former four-star recruit, will be playing in Texas’ next game on Sunday, as the the Longhorns seek to bounce back against the San Jose State Spartans at noon ET.
