He’s now achieved stardom as the quarterback of the University of Texas, but where did Quinn Ewers play high school football and get his start?
Let’s take a look back at Ewers’ legacy, and trace his path from his younger days to his current standing, as one of the best passers in college football.
Where Did Texas QB Quinn Ewers Play in High School?
Ewers played high school football at Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, Texas. There, he first garnered a reputation as a truly gifted thrower of the football.
Famously, Ewers fielded his first scholarship offer as early as sixth grade — receiving interest from former North Texas offensive coordinator and current Purdue offensive coordinator Graham Harrell.

It was clear early on simply how natural passing was to Ewers, and that truth became even more distinct as Ewers carved out his legacy at Carroll Senior.
Ewers took over the starting QB role as a sophomore, and over that season, he amassed 3,998 yards, 45 touchdowns, and just three interceptions while completing nearly 75% of his attempts.
Even while missing six games as a junior due to injury, Ewers still passed for almost 2,500 yards and 28 scores. And by his senior campaign, he was already a top recruit for whom many predicted a rise to stardom at the collegiate level.
How Did Ewers End Up at Texas via Ohio State?
Ewers was the top overall recruit in the 2022 recruiting class on multiple outlets, receiving generational grades for his raw passing ability. A consensus five-star talent, he had offers from virtually every blue-blood program and originally chose to play at Ohio State.
With the Buckeyes, Ewers would presumably back up C.J. Stroud and await his chance to succeed the fellow NFL prospect. But when Stroud thrived in 2021 and returned to Ohio State in 2022, it became clear that an immediate starting opportunity wouldn’t come to fruition in Columbus.
Thus, in the offseason of 2022, Ewers entered the transfer portal, and he soon committed to the Texas Longhorns. There, he’d play under the oversight of head coach Steve Sarkisian, with an abundance of weapons in tow.
Texas granted Ewers the early opportunity he sought, and he spent most of the 2022 campaign as the starter. Across 10 games in that role, Ewers compiled a record of 6-4, completing 172 of 296 passes for 2,177 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
In 2023, Ewers returned as the incumbent starter, and the results were even more inspiring. With a full season under his belt, Ewers returned to complete 69% of his passes for 3,479 yards, 22 TDs, and only six INTs.
Not only did Ewers himself improve in 2023, but he also led Texas to a Big 12 Championship and an appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Ewers could ultimately carry his production to the professional level. Currently, he’s graded as a Day 3 prospect on Pro Football Network’s board, but a strong season could help him rise up the board. And when he rises, many will remember how Ewers got his start at Carroll Senior.
