As we are in the thick of the college football offseason, teams are beginning to put things together to make their team the best they can be next season. For Texas, they are in the process of building around their young quarterback, who’s poised for a breakout year, Arch Manning.
This includes getting Manning receivers he can comfortably throw the ball to, as well as picking him up some good protection up front. For Trevor Goosby, Longhorns offensive tackle, his protection of Manning goes both on the field and off the field.

Texas OT Trevor Goosby Jokes About Defending Arch Manning On and Off the Field
The Texas offensive tackle, Trevor Goosby, recently showed some loyalty to his young star quarterback, Arch Manning. In a recent presser, Goosby joked around about protecting Manning on the basketball court in pick-up games.
“If a guy hits him too hard, I gotta go and rough him up a little,” Goosby jokes with the Longhorns media about his protection of Manning. Manning and Goosby play basketball games a lot together, and it’s good to know that Goosby is a protector of Manning there, too.

I mean imagine showing up for a game of pickup and you have to go against a 300lb o-lineman#Texas | #HookEm pic.twitter.com/jy5bIHgZ4r

First of all, imagine showing up to a basketball game and needing to play defense against a 300-pound offensive tackle. That would be a feat in itself, now you add the fact that if you play defensive too hard on his quarterback, he’ll come over and rough you up a little bit, yikes.
This is a great energy to have for Goosby. Both on the field and off the field he’s worried about protecting his quarterback from harm or injury. It’s something that many fans who have seen it, will admire. Manning is the future of the Longhorns’ college football team, and it’s imperative to make sure he remains healthy.
Goosby had a great opportunity to watch and learn from former Longhorns player, current New Orleans Saints player, Kelvin Banks. Goosby has been able to mirror and imitate Banks’ game and has used it to his advantage. Goosby filled in for a little for a banged up Cameron Williams.
Goosby got to line up against the likes of Shemar Stewart, Shemar Turner, Mykel Williams, and more. Goosby will look to be more of a road paver next season. In Goosby’s 319 snaps last year, he had an overall pass-blocking grade from PFF of 80.8, but a run-blocking grade of 61.3.

He noted run blocking is an area where he wants to improve. However, above all else, Goosby has made it known that he has one priority this upcoming season, and that’s protecting his quarterback.
