Quarterback Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns were on a roll in recent weeks. They were recovering from a poor start to their season and appeared to be back in the playoff mix. However, on Saturday, they lost 35-10 to No. 4-ranked Georgia. While a loss to Georgia is not something most teams should be too disappointed in, it could spell the end of the season for the Longhorns.
It was a blowout, which makes the team look worse as the date for the selection committee to choose the College Football Playoff teams approaches. To make matters worse, it was the Longhorns’ third loss of the season. Last year, no at-large team was selected by the CFP selection committee with more than two losses. As a result, it appears that the Longhorns’ playoff hopes could be gone.

What Are the Texas Longhorns’ Playoff Chances After Losing to Georgia?
With the Texas Longhorns falling to 7-3 on the season, their chances of making the playoffs dropped dramatically. They are now the No. 17-ranked team in the nation and no longer look poised to make the playoffs. However, they still have a small glimmer of hope.
According to Playoff Status, if the Longhorns win their final two games of the year, they will have a 23% chance of getting selected for the College Football Playoff. The reason the Longhorns still have hope is because of who they are up against.
Next week, Arch Manning and his teammates go up against Arkansas. That is a must-win game for the Longhorns, and it is a game they should comfortably win. Then, to close the season, the Longhorns play No. 3-ranked Texas A&M. The Aggies are one of three notable teams atop the rankings with undefeated records, along with Ohio State and Texas A&M.
If the Longhorns can pull off the upset and defeat Texas A&M in the final game of the season, there is an argument that the Longhorns could deserve a playoff spot. Two of their losses would be against other teams that are going to make the playoffs (Ohio State and Georgia). As a result, the committee could argue that the Longhorns only had three losses because of their strong strength of schedule.

It is far from a guarantee, but the Longhorns still have a narrow path to the College Football Playoff.
