The Texas Longhorns are still in the mix. Not something you expected to hear? Imagine if they make the playoffs. There are still two ranked games left on the schedule. If they can even get one, Arch Manning could be playing in the top 12. Here is the full breakdown for the path to the playoffs for Texas.

The Schedule
The biggest question is going to revolve around the schedule. Can Texas do enough to impress the committee in its final few games? First, they play at Georgia this weekend. A win would vault them up the rankings and probably into the playoffs. Winning on the road in the SEC is the best resume booster that they can get. Not to mention, Georgia is the committee’s 5th-best team. A prime-time win in Athens could put Texas in a position to not be able to fall out, even if they lose one of their final games.
After Georgia is Arkansas. The Razorbacks shouldn’t be an issue for Manning and co. The Horns are also at home for this game and the next against Texas A&M. Too much is going on in Arkansas for the Razorbacks to be a threat. Expect Texas to take care of business in this one.
Then there is the last game of the year. Texas will play Texas A&M at home in what could be a win-or-go-home game. The Longhorns won’t want to lose this game, and a win could be their path to the playoffs.
Will Texas be in a Bowl Game?
Where does Texas really stack up against other contenders? The Longhorns would probably have the best resume even if they got to a third loss. The only kickback is if they lose twice. 2 losses in the last three games would even the hope for the playoffs.
Texas is in as good a position as they can be in. If they get 2 wins, they are in plain and simple. Both games are winnable. They showed their worth against Vanderbilt last week. If they do that again, they should be playing a road playoff game to open their postseason. For Texas fans, that means no New Year’s 6 games this year unless they get through the first round.
Bottom Line
The Georgia game would be the bigger one because of how it could take Texas heading into the last game against A&M. If they fall in Athens, they would have to make a statement down the stretch for the committee to let the first-ever 3-loss team into the playoffs. Either way, the Longhorns are in a great position to salvage their season.
