Barryn Sorrell waited for a long time at Green Bay before finally being drafted by the Packers in the fourth round with the 124th overall pick. The Texas edge rusher had a key decision to make on Saturday, having been waiting since Wednesday to hear his name called.
However, his patience finally paid off after commissioner Roger Goodell announced his name.

Texas EDGE Barryn Sorrell’s Draft-Day Patience Rewarded by Packers in Green Bay
Sorrell watched Thursday’s first NFL draft round back at his hotel. The 22-year-old watched the Packers draft his college teammate Matthew Golden with the 23rd overall pick. He remained optimistic that he might know his new NFL team by the end of the third round.
But his hope was dashed when he didn’t get a phone call throughout the night. The Texas edge considered ending his stay and returning home.
The 22-year-old knew he would be the only prospect in the green room on Saturday and decided to stay put. His patience eventually paid off when the host team, the Green Bay Packers, chose him with the 124th overall pick in the fourth round.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced Sorrell’s name on the Green Bay draft stage. This experience was unlike any other for a late-round pick, as Goodell usually appeared in the first round alone.
“I had to make a decision this morning. Do I go back, go home, and do it that way? I’m so blessed and thankful that I decided to come back,” Sorrell said after his draft pick. “It couldn’t have turned out better, man.”
Sorrell In Emotional Press Conference After Packers Draft Pick
After the host team selected him, Sorrell was overwhelmed with emotions and shared his experience during draft weekend. He got emotional during the discussion before he introduced his family, who were present with him.
“I really don’t have any words to describe it,” Sorrell said. “It’s definitely going to be one of the best memories I’ve had in my life. This day has been great. Just the energy these fans bring. You can tell how important it is out here.”
