“Would Have No Problem If Texas Was Unranked”: Josh Pate Still Unimpressed By Arch Manning’s Longhorns, Despite SEC Winning Streak

The ongoing Texas Longhorns’ season has to be considered a disappointment. Analyst Josh Pate agrees, and he is not afraid of sharing his opinion. Their 45-38 victory over the Mississippi Bulldogs in Week 9 ensured that they remain in the Top 25, although at the bottom at No. 20.

The truth is their 6-2 record is nowhere near enough to carry them to the College Football Playoff. And if by some miracle they manage to win all their remaining games, which would include victories over the highly ranked Vanderbilt (No. 9) and Texas A&M (No. 3), and they qualify for the CFP, they wouldn’t be favorites to win the national title. This was the whole point of the 2025 season, following two disappointing CFP appearances in 2023 and 2024.

Josh Pate went one step further and said if it were up to him, Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns wouldn’t even be ranked in the Top 25.

“I would have no problem if Texas was unranked. I would have no problem with that,” said Pate on Monday’s episode of ‘Josh Pate’s College Football Show’ (2:25).

According to Pate, Texas is being cut some slack for two reasons: 1. They’re a national brand and a powerhouse of the sport, and 2. They’re in the SEC. He went on to say that while he thinks fans overreact when they say that SEC programs are overrated, in the case of the Texas Longhorns this year, they’re right.

Texas Longhorns Coach Steve Sarkisian Speaks Up About NFL Rumors

With the Texas Longhorns’ poor form, rumors have started to emerge that Steve Sarkisian would want to jump ship to the NFL.

The coach decided to directly reply to the reports in his most recent press conference, and he seemed angry about it.

“I’d love to touch on this … because it really pisses me off that one person can make a report that in turn the entire media sports world runs with as factual,” Sarkisian said during his post-game media availability. “I thought it was absolutely ridiculous. I thought it was completely unprofessional of that person to put that report out. . . Where that report came from, I’d love to talk to that person because it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

His agent, Jimmy Sexton, had already rebuked the rumor last week. Now, Sarkisian has shut it down himself. But more importantly, like some analysts said last week, would NFL teams even want him?
