Tetairoa McMillan’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

Big-bodied wideouts who at times appear over-reliant on contested catches are always polarizing throughout the NFL Draft process. On the surface, Tetairoa McMillan seems to fit that archetype — yet, defiantly, his agility and separation potential serve as two of his best traits.

At 6’4″, 219 pounds, McMillan has truly elite short-area quickness, bend, flexibility, and stop-and-start capacity as a route runner. He brings enough speed and burst to the fold, has nuanced spatial IQ, and plays like a power forward at the catch point.

The biggest question mark for McMillan is whether he can be a true WR1, or whether he profiles more as a high-end WR2. Early in his career, he might function better as the latter, but his quickness and size suggest he can expand his release package and eventually morph into a number one.

    Tetairoa McMillan’s NFL Draft Projection

In CSN’s 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft from April 12, McMillan landed in Round 1 with the seventh overall pick. James Fragoza has this to say:

Standing 6’4″ and weighing 219 pounds, with 31 1/2″ arms and 10″ hands, Tetairoa McMillan combines smooth route-running and impressive leaping ability to emerge as the top pass-catching prospect available.

While the Jets’ glaring need remains at quarterback—and with the top two options already taken—the smartest play is to arm Justin Fields with all the offensive weapons he needs to succeed.

And in CSN’s recent 3-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Brian Burden had this to say about McMillan’s selection to the San Francisco 49ers in Round 1 with the 11th pick:

The defending NFC champions missed the playoffs completely last year, finishing last in the NFC West at 6-11. Injuries doomed Kyle Shanahan’s team, as Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk both missed double-digit games in 2024.

The San Francisco 49ers finished fourth in the league in passing (249.1 ypg) and total offense (376.3 ypg), but that only translated to a pedestrian, middle-of-the-pack 22.9 points per game.

Enter Tetairoa McMillan. San Francisco could go with an offensive lineman here, or perhaps take Matthew Golden from Texas off the board at wide receiver first, but McMillan has been highly productive for the Arizona Wildcats, going for more than 80 catches and 1,300 yards receiving each of the past two years.

The 6’4″ 219-pound All-American had 26 touchdowns in three seasons in Tucson and would be a savvy replacement for the departed Deebo Samuels.
