Quarterfinal action at the United Cup 2026 will continue on Day 7 (Thursday, January 8) of the tournament. Belgium will take on their European rivals Czechia for a spot in the semifinal.
Defending champions USA will take on Greece in the first quarterfinal on Wednesday, January 7, followed by a showdown between Switzerland and Argentina. Poland and hosts Australia will lock horns in the final quarterfinal on Friday, January 9.
Belgium were grouped together with Canada and China. While China beat them 2-1, the Belgians bounced back with a 3-0 clean sweep against Canada to top their group. This is their best result in the tournament so far.
The Czech Republic started the tournament on a strong note, brushing aside Norway 3-0. However, Australia beat them 2-1. Despite finishing second in their group, the Czechs still managed to advance further since they were the best performing runner-up team in Sydney. They will now aim to advance to the semifinals for the second year in a row.
Elise Mertens and Zizou Bergs have shouldered the bulk of the responsibility for the Belgians, while Barbora Krejcikova and Jakub Mensik have done the same for the Czechs. All of them will contest their respective singles matches in the quarterfinal, and then square off in the mixed doubles rubber as well.
