Rafael Nadal was born in Manacor, Mallorca, Spain, to Sebastián Nadal and Ana María Parera Femenías. Sebastian runs a business of glass and windows, and also a restaurant. Ana was also into business initially, but now she has changed her focus to family and her son’s foundation.

Nadal’s grandfather was a well-known local musician and conductor in Manacor and was the patriarch of the Nadal family. He died in 2015 at 85 years old. Meanwhile, his grandmother appears in his social media updates during family gatherings. Nadal even shared celebrations from her 92nd birthday in May 2023 at the family-owned Sa Punta restaurant.

Rafael Nadal’s Grandmother Once Revealed the Spaniard’s Affection For Non-Tennis Sports

When it comes to sports in Spain, tennis and football stand out. So, it was not surprising to learn from his grandmother that Rafael Nadal loved playing football growing just as much as tennis.

Speaking to a Spanish radio station after Nadal won his 13th Grand Slam title, Homar recalled:

“He started playing with balls in the hallway of his home before he learned to walk. He loved playing football and he was always excited when Saturday came around. He liked football just as much as tennis.”

Homar also recalled a moment when his uncle Toni Nadal asked his mother to come and watch Nadal play. While she liked it when he was winning, once he started losing, that’s when she got nervous.

“I remember one day Toni called me and said, ‘You have to come and see him,'” Homar said. “I can’t remember how old he was, maybe six. He was already holding the racket very well and when he hit the ball, he hit it well.

“I liked the first set a lot, but the second not so much because when I see that he is losing, I don’t like it. I was really suffering, and a lot of the time, when that happens, I have to turn it off. You get really nervous, and then it is really difficult to get to sleep.”

Rafael Nadal has often spoken highly about his family and their contribution in his career and personal life.
