Nick Kyrgios Reveals Exactly What Daniil Medvedev Said To Him In Locker Room After Heartbreaking Brisbane Loss

Unseeded Australian and a great showman of the sport, Nick Kyrgios suffered a shocking exit in the first round of the Brisbane International when he went down in straight sets against Aleksandar Kovacevic in about 65 minutes. After the heartbreaking loss, Kyrgios revealed how fellow tennis player Daniil Medvedev reacted to his loss.

During the press conference when one of the journalists asked the Australian about the shocking loss and whether he was now focused on playing the first Grand Slam of the year as a possible wildcard, Kyrgios replied by sharing what World No. 13 Daniil Medvedev had told him inside the locker room.

“Yeah, look, this is a stepping stone. I actually just spoke to Medvedev in the locker room, and he’s like, look, you play one match every now and then, it’s not going to be the way you want it all the time,” said Kyrgios

“As long as, you know, I feel good and I’m going to be able to try and use it as a building block, that’s my goal obviously, and not just AO but this year, for whatever this year holds, I do want to continue to play as much as I can, and we’ll see, yeah,” he added.

Despite the Early Exit, Nick Kyrgios Expressed His Gratitude Towards the Fans in Brisbane

In the same press conference, a journalist asked the Australian about his opinion on the fans who turned up in large numbers to watch him play in Brisbane. Kyrgios replied, “Yeah, it was good. Over the past month, things have been very eventful and a lot of fun. Obviously, the result today wasn’t how I wanted it to go.”
Expanding on his feelings, he added, “It was nothing like — you know, I feel like the journey I have had with the Australian media and the Australian public hasn’t always been amazing, but I feel like now, in these later years of my career, every time I walk out there, it’s always a lot of fun.”
Further reflecting on his experience, Kyrgios concluded, “I definitely felt a lot of love, especially from young kids chanting and enjoying themselves. I hope I’m giving them a good show, and maybe if they love tennis, one day they’ll be out there playing. Playing in Brissy is a lot of fun—it’s definitely one of my favorite places.”
Kyrgios will be in action next in the men’s doubles round of 16 clash alongside country man Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Pat Rafter Arena in the Brisbane International on Wednesday.
