Fresh Warning Signs Leave Jessica Pegula’s Australian Open Fate in Serious Doubt

World No. 6 Jessica Pegula concluded the 2025 campaign by reaching the semifinals of the US Open, where she was defeated by the eventual champion and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Despite the loss, the American No. 3 in women’s tennis had a decent campaign with a lot to look forward to in 2026.

Pegula is currently playing at the Brisbane International as a warm-up event for the Australian Open. She defeated Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Before her quarterfinal clash against Samsonova, a worrying sight appeared on court during her training session, when Pegula seemed to have her left thigh taped above the knee, raising multiple concerns regarding her fitness, especially with the Australian Open fast approaching.

This was the second consecutive day that Pegula had her thigh taped for a training session, and on both days, she managed to dispatch her opponent and advance in the tournament. This could hint that the American star is taking necessary precautions to avoid aggravating an underlying injury, if one exists.

Jessica Pegula Had a Fun Time Watching Kangaroo Highlights Ahead of the Australian Open

After her three-set win over Kostyuk in Brisbane, the WTA social media crew first showed Pegula a video of kangaroos in the wild. Earlier, they had displayed a clip of Pegula’s match streaming to a kangaroo. The two videos were then edited together, with the caption, “Skill recognizes skill.”
Pegula watched the video intently in the players’ tunnel and laughed with the crew at a funny moment on screen. She will next play in the Brisbane International semi-final on Saturday, facing the winner of the Mirra Andreeva vs. Marta Kostyuk quarterfinal.
