Now, Day 5 will see players like Lorenzo Sonego, Alexandre Muller, Marcos Giron, Shang Juncheng, Alexander Bublik, and more contest for a place in the quarterfinals.

On Day 4, Musetti locked horns with Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the Round of 16. The Italian dominated the round, claiming an impressive 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-4 win. Similarly, Wong met Gabriel Diallo in the same round and produced a notable performance. He advanced to the quarterfinals by securing a 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory.

More players are aiming to join the quarterfinal round, which will take place on Friday. On that note, here’s a look at the predictions for all the men’s singles matches set for Day 5 of the Hong Kong Tennis Open:

#1 Lorenzo Sonego vs. J.C. Shang

Lorenzo Sonego’s 2025 season started on a strong note as he advanced to his first-ever Grand Slam quarter-final. However, he was bested by Ben Shelton in that round. Following this, he faced a setback, as he suffered multiple early exits. He capped off his season by competing at the Moselle Open in November.

Here, Sonego reached the semi-final, where he faced Cameron Norrie, who got the better of the Italian and dashed his hopes of advancing to the final. He ended the year ranked World No. 95 and currently stands at World No. 39. He opened his 2026 season at the Hong Kong Open, where he bested Rei Sakamoto in the Round of 32 and will now square off against Shang.

Shang’s 2025 season did not pan out as expected. He started the year strong at the 2025 Hong Kong Open, reaching the semi-finals; however, he had to retire mid-match due to illness. Following this, he retired from the Australian Open due to his foot pain and then went out of action until July.

Following his comeback, he fell short of earning any wins and faced early exits. The last singles match of his 2025 season was at the Shanghai Masters. He was defeated by Nuno Borges in the Round of 32. He ended the season ranked World No. 253 and currently stands at World No. 254.

His highest career ranking is World No. 47 and, on the other hand, his opponent, Sonego’s highest career ranking is World No. 21. According to their statistics and recent performances, the Italian is expected to nab this win.

    Predicted winner: Lorenzo Sonego.

#2 Karen Khachanov vs. Michael Mmoh

Khachanov and Mmoh will contest in the Round of 16 on Day 5 of the Hong Kong Open.

The Russian opened his 2025 season by competing at the Australian Open. Here, he reached the third round, where he was bested by Alex Michelsen. He delivered a similar performance at the French Open, where he couldn’t advance past the third round. In the Wimbledon Championships, he reached the quarterfinals and in the US Open, his journey ended in the second round.

In 2025, Khachanov reached his first Masters 1000 final since 2018, at the National Bank Open. He capped off his season at the Paris Masters in October, where he was defeated by Alex de Minaur in the Round of 16. He ended his season ranked World No. 18 and currently stands at World No. 17.

Mmoh made a comeback in 2025 from a serious elbow injury he sustained in 2024. He opened his season by competing at the Cleveland Challenger, where he lost in the second round. He only competed in one major last year at the French Open, where he gave a walkover ahead of the second qualifiers round.

He was mainly focused on recovering from his physical issues last year and ended the season ranked World No. 287. He is currently at World No. 287, and his highest ranking is No. 81, which he reached in 2023. Khachanov’s highest career ranking, on the other hand, is World no. 8.

    Predicted winner: Karen Khachanov.

#3 Alexandre Muller vs. Marcos Giron

    Predicted winner: Alexandre Muller

#4. Alexander Bublik vs. Botic van de Zandschulp

    Predicted winner: Alexander Bublik
