Fourth seed Alexandra Eala will take on Wang Xinyu in the semifinals of the ASB Classic 2026.
Eala fought past Donna Vekic in three sets to reach the second round. She then crushed Petra Marcinko 6-0, 6-2 to set up a quarterfinal date with fifth seed Magda Linette. She had lost both of her previous meetings against the Pole last year.
The two traded service breaks to start the first set, after which Eala took control of the reins. She snagged a break in the sixth game, and even though she wasted two set points on Linette’s serve in at 5-3, she served out the set herself in the next game.
Eala raced to a 4-0 lead in the second set but Linette halted her momentum with a two-game run. However, the momentum reverted in Eala’s direction once again, who bagged the next two games for a 6-3, 6-2 win.
Wang beat Caty McNally in three sets in her opener, and followed it up with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Renata Zarazua. She was up against Francesca Jones in the quarterfinal. Wang built a comfortable 5-2 lead in the first set, only to falter while trying to close out the set.
However, Wang didn’t make the same mistake twice, and got the job done on her second try. She led 4-3 in the second set when Jones threw in the towel due to an injury, thus sending her into the next round.

Both players struggled in their respective first-round matches but have raised their level considerably since then. Eala’s breakthrough last year saw her score wins over the likes of Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys en route to the semifinals of the Miami Open.
Eala also came incredibly close to winning her maiden WTA title but blew championship points in the final of the Eastbourne International against Maya Joint. Wang also had some solid results last year, and beat Coco Gauff on the way to the final of the Berlin Tennis Open.
Eala is playing really well this week, and is into the semifinals in doubles as well along with Iva Jovic. Her return of serve is really putting her opponents under pressure, and if she continues to maintain that level, then getting past Wang shouldn’t be an issue.
