Coco Gauff shared a lighthearted story about a Secret Santa mishap during an appearance on The Player’s Box Podcast that aired earlier today. The world No. 3 hilariously revealed how a simple miscalculation led to an unexpectedly strong holiday drink.
Gauff, who turned 21 last March, said she is still learning her limits when it comes to alcohol. That learning curve surfaced when she hosted a Secret Santa gathering and decided to make spiked hot chocolate.
She recounted the incident on the podcast hosted by compatriots and friends Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Jennifer Brady, and Desirae Krawczyk. Gauff explained that she misread a TikTok recipe and poured far more Baileys than intended.
“I turned 21 this year, and so you know, I’m still trying to learn my alcohol and things like that. I hosted a Secret Santa and made spiked hot chocolate, and i followed a recipe on TikTok. I saw like she poured half Baileys and half hot chocolate, but I didn’t realize she was using a shot glass, and I poured half a mug of Baileys instead,” Gauff said.
Keys jokingly asked if the mistake left everyone “hammered,” while Brady wondered if the drink was meant just for Gauff. Gauff said the drinks were for everyone, though no one managed to finish theirs.
“It was for all of us, but nobody finished their drink. I started drinking it and I was freaking out halfway, and iw as like I don’t thnk I poured the right amount, so I poured half of mine away and just filled it up with hot chocolate” Gauff added.
From Wine Bottle at 15 to A Water Toast at the US Open: Gauff’s Funny Alcohol Stories
Gauff has, in fact, previously had multiple funny alcohol related run-ins. One dates back to 2019, when she won her first WTA title in Linz at just 15 and was handed a bottle of wine during the trophy ceremony.
When she claimed her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open at 19, her coach, Brad Gilbert, later revealed that Gauff toasted the win with water, while he admitted to indulging in a few too many tequilas himself.
Gauff finally popped her first bottle of champagne after winning the French Open last year, doing so with ease before sharing a celebratory sip alongside Chris Evert, Jim Courier, and Sam Querrey in the TNT Sports studio.
