Carlos Alcaraz’s Ex-Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero Hits Back at False Money Claims About Break-Up

Carlos Alcaraz’s ex-coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, is aware of the false reporting by the media regarding the reason behind his split with World No. 1. Earlier, after Alcaraz announced the breakup between the two after seven years, several tabloids ran stories that Ferrero found the terms of the new contract, with regards to money, unacceptable and that’s why Alcaraz’s camp decided to part ways with him.

However, this is not true, and Ferrero is here to set the record straight.

Alcaraz’s former coach sat down in an interview with MARCA, where he acknowledged that while there were some points of difference between him and the World No. 1’s camp, money was not an issue.

“The financial aspect has been brought up,” Ferrero said. “And I’ve shown from a very young age that it wasn’t the most important thing for me. There’s been talk that I asked for more, and it’s true that they’ve always been very generous with a very high percentage for those early years when I was so involved with it. And I appreciate that. In the end, I’ve tried to make it clear that the financial issue wasn’t one of the problems, nor was it the reason I was in this project.”

Juan Carlos Ferrero Admits Disagreement on Contract With Carlos Alcaraz’s camp

Juan Carlos Ferrero, in his interview with Marca, admitted that both parties were at crossroad in regards to contract renewal.

“It’s true that when a year ends, certain things need to be reviewed regarding contracts. And as with any new contract, looking ahead to the following year, there were certain things we disagreed on,” Ferrero said.

Ferrero said that had those points of disagreement been taken into a conversation, there was a possibility of resolution, but since that’s not what happened, both went their separate ways.

Regarding whether Alcaraz knew that he was let go, Ferrero said that he initially contacted the Spaniard regarding the contract renewal situation and the World No. 1 was aware of the proceedings. From then on, Ferrero didn’t bother Alcaraz anymore, assuming that the World No. 1 was aware of the final decision made by his camp.

After Alcaraz made the social media post, acknowledging Ferrero’s efforts in his development, the longtime head coach said he would have liked to continue to coach.

Despite the heartbreaking divorce, both Alcaraz and Ferrero achieved a lot together. Learning under Ferrero since he was 15, Alcaraz won six Grand Slams and 24 ATP Tour singles titles.

After Ferrero’s dismissal, Alcaraz has promoted Samuel Lopez as his main coach. The duo have already started preparing for the 2026 season.
