Brisbane International 2026 Day 4 Predictions: Medvedev vs Tiafoe, Kalinskaya vs Pegula and more

Day 4 (Wednesday, January 7) of the Brisbane International 2026 will mark the start of the second round of men’s singles, along with the continuation of the second round in women’s singles. Defending champion and top seed Aryna Sabalenka made a blistering start to her title defense, handing Cristina Bucsa a 6-0, 6-1 beatdown in less than an hour on Tuesday.

Along with Sabalenka, fellow Major champions Madison Keys and Elena Rybakina also made it through to the next round in straight sets. The men’s side witnessed some big upsets over the past couple of days. Second seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, fourth seed Tommy Paul, and fifth seed Denis Shapovalov were all bundled out.

Top players will now aim to avoid the plague of upsets and continue their quest for the title here. On that note, here are the predictions for the men’s and women’s singles matches set for Day 4 of the Brisbane International 2026:

Brisbane International 2026 Day 4: Men’s Singles Predictions

#1. Daniil Medvedev vs Frances Tiafoe

Medvedev kicked off his Brisbane International campaign with a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 win over Marton Fucsovics. Tiafoe, on the other hand, beat home favorite Aleksandar Vukic 6-2, 6-2 in the first round.

Medvedev leads Tiafoe 6-1 in their head-to-head. The former won their first six meetings, until the latter snapped his losing skid with a win at the Laver Cup 2024, their most recent showdown. All of their previous matches were on hardcourts as well.

Medvedev had a tough first half of the season in 2025 but had a resurgence following the US Open. Tiafoe had a couple of impressive results but aside from those, it was a year to forget for him. While both were quite dominant during their first-round wins, the Russian’s record in this rivalry makes him the favorite to win this match.

Anna Kalinskaya beat Tereza Valentova to reach the second round of the Brisbane International. Jessica Pegula, meanwhile, received a first-round bye as one of the seeded players.

Pegula leads their rivalry 3-1. Kalinskaya won their most recent meeting at the Strasbourg Internationaux 2025 in three sets. In fact, all of their previous matches have gone the distance so far.

Pegula had a 53-23 record in 2025, while Kalinskaya put together a 25-21 record. This could be another closely-fought encounter between them, though the American will be expected to prevail yet again.
