Alexandra Eala and Magda Linette will lock horns in an all-seeded affair at the 2026 ASB Classic, with a spot in the semifinal of the line.
Eala, the fourth seed at this year’s tournament, has had two contrasting wins in Auckland. While she was made to work hard for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Donna Vekic, she waste little time to post a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Petra Marchinko in the last round.
The youngster had a breakthrough 2025 season, where she made a WTA 1000 semifinal in Miami on debut before making her first Tour final at Eastbourne. She is looking to back up those results with a strong start to the new year.
Linette, meanwhile, has also started her season with two battling wins. She took out former World No. 1 Venus Williams in her opener 6-4. 4-6, 6-2 before winning another three-setter against Elisabetta Cocciaretto 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.
The Pole had a mixed season last year, doing just enough to stay in the top-50 ballpark. Her standout results were a Miami quarterfinal and third-round showings at Rome and Doha.
