Tavien St. Clair has only been a starter for two and a half seasons, but he’s already broken records at Bellefontaine High School. Just how good is the Ohio native, and does St. Clair’s player profile warrant the attention of nearly every college football program?

St. Clair spent the first half of his freshman year as the backup before taking over as QB1 six games into the season. He only completed 54% of his passes and threw 13 touchdowns to eight interceptions, but he showed enough to attend multiple FBS camps that summer.
However, he took a massive leap as a sophomore, posting 25 TDs to just four INTs and leading Bellefontaine to an 8-2 record before losing in the first round of the playoffs. Following the season, Ohio State offered a scholarship to the budding signal-caller, earning his commitment just one month later.
As a junior, St. Clair continued his linear progression, breaking the school record for passing yards (3,983) while completing over 70% of his passes and generating 37 TDs to eight INTs. He even rushed for another 352 yards and four scores.
Like most highly recruited players, St. Clair has played multiple sports in high school. He participated in baseball and basketball for Bellefontaine, averaging 10 points and five rebounds on the hardwood (sophomore) and posting a 0.373 batting average and 2.23 ERA on the diamond (freshman).
Yet, St. Clair prides himself most on being from Bellefontaine. “I’ve thought about this for a long time — since I was a little kid,” St. Clair told the Dayton News. “And now that it’s happening, it’s cool because nobody has really done it from Bellefontaine. The last time we had somebody go to an FBS program was in like the 60s. The internet wasn’t really a thing, social media wasn’t really a thing, so it’s cool.”
With the size, mobility, and arm talent that leave offensive coordinators salivating, it’s no surprise St. Clair is a five-star recruit and a consensus top-five QB in the 2025 class. He hasn’t wavered on his OSU commitment and has even begun recruiting efforts for other top prospects, including five-star OT David Sanders Jr.
