Syracuse wide receiver Trebor Pena has decided to leave the program after spending the last five years with the Orange. Last season, he led the team with 84 receptions and nine touchdowns.
Pena also was the team’s primary punt returner, so his departure will be felt both on offense and on special teams. He was named team captain in December 2024, but he has now decided to take his talents elsewhere for his final year of collegiate eligibility. Where could the talented pass-catcher play next year?

5 Potential Transfer Portal Landing Spots for WR Trebor Pena
Miami (FL) Hurricanes
The Hurricanes lost a lot on offense, most notably projected No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, but they also lost their leader in career receptions and yards, Xavier Restrepo. While Miami has secured the services of Carson Beck, they don’t have the experience required at the wide receiver position yet, as they only have a bunch of prospects.
The Hurricanes have a lot of talent at the receiver position, but Pena could be Carson Beck’s most reliable option in the new season.
Penn State Nittany Lions
In 2024, The Nittany Lions had problems with the wide receiver position and they’ve added Devonte Ross from Troy and Kyron Hudson from USC in an attempt to fix the problems. Star QB Drew Allar is returning in what will be good news for the fans but he can’t do it all alone.
The Nittany Lions could make use of Pena’s experience and grab him now that he’s available in the portal.
Tennessee Volunteers
The Tennessee Vols fans were shocked when star quarterback Nico Lamaleava entered the transfer portal. His exit means Tennessee will have to make recruiting a new quarterback their priority, but the team also lacks depth and quality at the wide receiver position.
Chris Brazzell returns as a starter after having 29 receptions last season, but Tennessee’s two other starters, Braylon Staley and Mike Mathews have a combined 10 career receptions. With Pena’s experience, he would likely be wide receiver No. 1.
Louisville Cardinals
The Louisville Cardinals are just a few pieces away from competing for the ACC title in the 2025 season, and with the spring portal now open, they must go after some of the top players available.

They currently have Chris Bell and Caullin Lacy, but after these two, the quality is very shallow. Louisville needs to secure at least one very good wide receiver if it wants to compete against the best.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Texas Tech is already making big moves this off-season, securing running back Quinten Joyner from USC and two starting offensive tackles. But they have lost wide receiver Micah Hudson.
They still have several receivers on the roster, but Pena’s experience elevates them to a higher level.
