‘He’s a Little Dude’ – 3-Time Super Bowl Champ Warns Travis Hunter Could Be At Disadvantage Despite High Praise for His Colorado Play

Travis Hunter had a historic Heisman season in many ways for the Colorado Buffaloes before being selected second overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2025 NFL draft. Hunter plays two ways, both as a receiver and a cornerback.

Questions are now being raised about Hunter’s cornerback role. According to former three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth, while the 22-year-old is above average, he may struggle due to his size.

Schlereth said receivers in the NFL are rough and tough, so it may prove to be difficult for Travis Hunter to keep up with that intensity and brush shoulders with them.

“That dude can run all day,” Schlereth said on Breakfast Ball on FS1. “I’ve been around them. I helped out at CU last year, so I’ve watched that kid. That kid is built different—like, he can run. That dude does not get tired. Flat out doesn’t get tired. But he’s slight. He’s a little dude, right? And some of the receivers that you have in this league are physical. Like a guy like Brown in Philadelphia. There are guys in this league that are so damn physical, they would wear a dude out.”

Travis Hunter measures 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds. Meanwhile, the NFL average for someone at the cornerback position is 5-foot-11 while weighing roughly 192–194 pounds. This means that while Hunter is above league average in height, he’s leaner when it comes to the rest of the league.

Travis Kelce Highlights How Team Will Strategize Against Travis Hunter

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce shared his opinion on how opposing teams could strategize against Travis Hunter, who is set to play in a two-way role with the Jaguars.

During his appearance on the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast last week, Kelce was asked whether Hunter can make All-Pro on both sides of the ball.

“Both sides? That’s the thing, I don’t know how they’re going to divvy it out,” he said, via Sports Illustrated. “I don’t know, because teams are going to be going after him. They’re gonna try and make his day miserable. If he plays corner, they’re gonna run deep balls at him all day. They’re gonna run the wide receivers, just take off on him all day, just to try to get him tired. Why wouldn’t you just attack him that way?”

While there’s a lot of speculation on whether Travis Hunter can nail it on both sides of the gridiron, Jaguars coach Liam Coen has already said that he has a special plan in place to utilize the skills of the reigning Heisman winner on the field.
