The Sun Belt Championship Game is next up for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. However, who they are set to play remains up for grabs all the way up to the final moments of the Sun Belt calendar.
With the Marshall Thundering Herd needing a win to clinch their spot, Georgia Southern looks to hold their own and get a little luck. Here are the Sun Belt Championship Game scenarios for Week 14.
Sun Belt Championship Game Odds
As of midway through Week 14’s Saturday slate, the Ragin’ Cajuns had clinched their spot in the Sun Belt Championship Game. That’s because they won the Sun Belt West outright with their victory over UL-Monroe on Saturday. That, of course, and Texas State’s win over South Alabama pushed the Cajuns to a win-and-they’re-in situation in Week 14.
Now, the winners of the West must await for the East to culminate as they’re set to do so as the Sun Belt regular season wraps up.
Here’s how the CFN Playoff Predictor views the Sun Belt Championship going:
- Louisiana: 51.6%
- Marshall: 32.3%
- Georgia Southern: 16.1%
Louisiana is in and will hold the distinction of being the favorites over either opponent when the game is finally revealed. But both teams have a different road map to clinch.
Sun Belt Championship Game Scenarios
With Louisiana in, we know half the battle. Now, with only two other teams in contention, the east will be won by Marshall or Georgia Southern. Here’s how that happens:
- Marshall is in with a win
- Georgia Southern is in with a win and a Marshall loss
If both teams lose in Week 14, Marshall is in.
Marshall plays JMU and has just a 46.6% chance of beating the Dukes, whereas Georgia Southern is taking on Appalachian State and has a 73.0% chance of winning.
If Georgia Southern were to lose to App State, Marshall would be in. But they’d also be locked in the middle of their game with JMU and would likely have to find out from a staffer on the sidelines if they’re tuned in to the game.
Either way, the race for the Sun Belt is set to come down to the wire.
