Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton led his team to a 28-3 halftime score against the Charlotte 49ers. The Bulldogs were heading for a complete first-half shutdown of the 49ers until a wrong pass by Stockton allowed Charlotte to score some points before entering halftime.
With 50 seconds remaining, Stockton threw a pass that was picked off by Ja’Quirious Conley, who ran with the ball within the field goal opportunity. Charlotte’s kicker, Liam Boyd, did the rest as he successfully kicked the 42-yard field goal for three points.
Fans shared hilarious reactions to the interception from Stockton. One fan accused the Bulldogs QB, saying:
“Investigate Stockton gambling account”
“lol in their end zone and throws on 3rd and 16!!!! With less than 2 minutes on the clock. How dumb do you have to be? To know this is obviously a run and then punt!” one fan called out Stockton for a brain-fade moment.
“Start Pug. Gunner ain’t it,” another added.
“Anyone surprised at this score?” another fan asked.
“Should still be a shutout, but at least no one has been injured. Continue to score after half and it’s on to GT!!” one fan added.
“Pro move right there Gunner Stockton could’ve run it in for the score but took a knee to run out the clock. #godawgs” one fan said.
Before the interception, Stockton was having a good game, completing 15 of 19 passes for 147 yards. All four touchdowns have come from the rushing unit. Nate Frazier, who gained 46 yards on the ground with 10 carries, accounted for two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Bo Walker has also rushed for two touchdowns while gaining 30 yards on just three carries.
Georgia QB Gunner Stockton Emerges as Heisman-Contender Amid Record Push
The Bulldogs are the No. 4 team in the nation, as per AP Polls, and Gunner Stockton deserves a lot of credit for leading his team to a 9-1 record entering the game against Charlotte.
Thanks to his performances over the course of the season, he has entered his name in the Heisman conversation. His most important game came against the Texas Longhorns, where he accounted for five touchdowns and completed 24 of 29 passes.
With a completion percentage hovering around 70.7 % this season, he trails only Carson Beck’s mark of 72.42 % for a single season at Georgia. Oddsmakers now list him among the top contenders.
