‘Envious of That’ — Why HC Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Success Is ‘Hitting Different’ in Coaching Circles

The Texas Longhorns are enjoying massive success with Steve Sarkisian as head coach of their football program. Under his reins, the Longhorns have made back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff, which follows a notable stint as a coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide during the height of former head coach Nick Saban’s run.

In a recent interview, former coach Les Koenning opens up about Steve Sarkisian’s success at Texas and what makes it so impactful with other college football coaches.

Former Texas Assistant Reveals Why Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Rise Is Making Other Coaches Envious

A veteran coach with deep ties to Texas, Les Koenning witnessed Steve Sarkisian’s success firsthand while being around the team. Koenning was a former wide receiver on the team and returned to Austin to be a wide receivers coach in 2014.

“If you ever get the chance to see and watch Steve Sarkisian on TV, he does a tremendous job of explaining stuff and he’s pretty upfront and outright with everything,” he said during his appearance on the On Texas Football show with host Bobby Burton Saturday, May 17.

“And that’s pretty impressive as a coach, because most coaches don’t want to tell you the truth,” he continued.

He continued, “You’re very envious of that when you look at him as a coach, because he’s just, watching him on… his interviews and stuff, he’s polished. He’s somebody who represents the university very, very well. And of course, he’s winning. Winning cures a lot of things.”

Sarkisian’s future at Texas looks brighter than ever this upcoming season, as vaunted QB Arch Manning takes over the team. The Longhorns are also projected to have one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, particularly on the defensive end.
