Steve Sarkisian Demands Answers on Hit That Led to Arch Manning’s Concussion During Mississippi State Matchup in Week 9

The Texas Longhorns secured a thrilling 45-38 overtime win in Week 9 against Mississippi State, which ended with Arch Manning taking a massive hit, resulting in his placement on the concussion protocol.

Manning played one of the best games of his career last week, as he completed 29 of 46 pass attempts. Along with a 345-yard run, he also scored three touchdowns and one interception before he was escorted to the sidelines and exited the game.

During Tuesday’s press conference, Steve Sarkisian shared that he has turned in a few plays for review to make sure they have a proper understanding of the rules.

“Yeah, we’ve turned in a few plays, and that’s not uncommon,” Sarkisian said. “We’re always trying just to make sure that we’re understanding of the rules. The last thing I want to do on game day is be complaining to the officials the whole time. So, I just want to make sure that we’re officiating certain plays so that I can complain when it’s appropriate. Coaches do it all the time, but again, I don’t want to waste time complaining.”

“I haven’t gotten a ruling back on it yet, but that’s why we do it, so that next week, when I meet with officials before the game, I can have that discussion on certain issues that arise, not only in our games, but other games,” the head coach added. “Maybe it’s the opponent that we’re getting ready to play, or other games around the league, just so that there’s a level of consistency in the officiating, then I’ll know how much time to spend complaining in the game.”

Steve Sarkisian Praises Arch Manning Over Mississippi State Performance

The Longhorns have been facing backlash from fans, as many of them had extremely high expectations for the program this year, predicting Manning to lead them to a national title in 2025.

While Texas, sitting at an overall record of 6-2, has not performed as well as they would’ve hoped, head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed his excitement about Saturday’s win in the post-game press conference.

Sarkisian said he felt like the team grew up during the game, especially Arch Manning, saying that they need moments like this, where the quarterback does everything correctly.

He appreciated the fact that Manning works hard, which showed in his performance in the fourth quarter.
