Connor Stalions feels the Ohio State Buckeyes have made significant changes to the way they handle their offense since the infamous sign-stealing scandal. According to him, the fact that they aren’t going up tempo and are huddling in offense makes it extremely difficult to steal their signals.
Connor Stalions on how Ryan Day has changed Ohio State’s offense to combat sign stealing:
“They were doing it on offense… once they started huddling, there’s no use for it… probably the smartest thing Ryan Day did this year was really slow it down… not going up-tempo, you… pic.twitter.com/CQXasR36Uo

Here’s what Stalions said on Tuesday on “OutKick” about the changes they have implemented:
“They were doing it on offense… once they started huddling, there’s no use for it… probably the smartest thing Ryan Day did this year was really slow it down… not going up-tempo, you can’t really steal signals.”
Stalions also seemed to imply that Ohio State is now stealing other teams’ signals, forcing them to adopt a faster tempo and utilize signals to coordinate the game’s faster pace.
Connor Stalions was at the heart of a 2023 scandal in which the NCAA and the Big Ten ruled that the Michigan Wolverines had, with premeditation, arranged for scouts at Big Ten games to steal opponents’ signals. While there was no proof that head coach Jim Harbaugh was involved, he was served a multi-game ban by the conference in late 2023, and some argue that his decision to move to the NFL was to avoid a full-time coaching ban in the NFL.

The NCAA On The Relationship With The University Of Michigan’s Coaching Staff
In a report earlier in the year, the NCAA detailed the Michigan Wolverines’ operation to steal hand signals from opposing teams in the Big Ten. One phrase jumped out of the report, showing how uncooperative the Michigan Wolverines really were with the investigation:
“The relationship between Michigan’s football staff members and the compliance office was challenging at best.”
Possibly because of a lack of cooperation, or thanks to Jim Harbaugh’s and Connor Stalions’ departure, the ruling body of college athletics only banned head coach Sherrone Moore for three games of the 2025 season. He was supposed to serve a further ban of one game in 2026, but now that he has been dismissed in disgrace by the school following an improper relationship with a staffer, the ban will likely be served by his replacement.
