Recap
Hawaii (1-0) overcame a poor start to beat Stanford (0-1) for the first time in their five meetings. After an early Stanford field goal, a special team gaffe gave the Cardinal another touchdown and a 10-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game.
But Hawaii rallied, taking the lead just before halftime on the second of QB Micah Alejado’s pair of touchdowns.
Stanford retook the lead on a short Micah Ford run early in the fourth quarter, but the Rainbow Warrior rallied late. Hawaii drove 50 yards on 10 plays to tie the game on a 37-yard field goal with 2:01 remaining. After forcing a three-and-out, Hawaii drove 52 yards to set up a game-winning 38-yard kick with no time on the clock.
Hawaii will play at Arizona next Saturday. Stanford has a week off and will travel to BYU the following Saturday, September 6, for their next game.
