According to the CFN Strength of Schedule, the Southern Miss 2024 football schedule is the fifth hardest in the Sun Belt. While the conference element is arguably harder than a year ago, there is at least the chance of escaping non-conference play with more than the one win they managed to gain against teams outside the Sun Belt last fall.
It all starts with a clash against the SEC for the second straight season. The Kentucky Wildcats have several NFL-caliber players on their roster, making the opener difficult. However, there’s just one Power Five program on the Southern Miss 2024 football schedule compared to two last fall, with USF, Jacksonville State, and SE Louisiana completing the out-of-conference competition.
Heading into Sun Belt play, the Southern Miss 2024 football schedule features two teams the Golden Eagles beat last season — the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and ULM Warhawks. Although they lost to the Arkansas State Red Wolves a year ago, Hall’s team has a 10-3 overall advantage and will have the October 19 clash circled as a must-win if they want to be bowl-eligible.

The final five games after that clash are brutal. The Southern Miss 2024 football schedule ends with trips to the James Madison Dukes, Texas State Bobcats, and Troy Trojans, while the Golden Eagles host the Marshall Thundering Herd and South Alabama Jaguars, teams that could all legitimately challenge for the Sun Belt title this fall. At least they avoid Appalachian State.
