Sonny Cumbie’s Salary, Contract, Net Worth, and More

Sonny Cumbie is heading into his third season at Louisiana Tech, but what is his salary, contract, and net worth as Bulldogs' head coach?

Sonny Cumbie is entering his third season as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs’ head coach after back-to-back three-win seasons. The former Texas Tech and TCU offensive coordinator took over before the 2022 season and is looking for his first winning season.

What is Cumbie’s salary, contract, and net worth as the Louisiana Tech head coach?

Sonny Cumbie’s Salary and Contract in 2024?

Cumbie signed a five-year, $4.85 million contract in December 2021 with Louisiana Tech that will pay him a base salary of $1 million in 2024.

However, there are several additional bonuses that can be achieved to bolster his overall salary.

The deal sees Cumbie under contract in Ruston until January 2027, with his salary increasing incrementally.

According to News Star reports, Cumbie earned $900,000 in 2022, increasing to $950,000 in 2023, topping out at $1 million for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 seasons.

On top of Cumbie’s base salary, a package of incentives and bonuses is available to the Bulldogs head coach. Those include:

    • $50,000 for making the Conference USA Championship Game.
    • $100,000 for winning the Conference USA Championship Game.
    • $50,000 for winning a bowl game.
    • $25,000 for making a non-New Year’s Six bowl game.
    • $75,000 for making a New Year’s Six bowl game.
    • $25,000 for defeating any Power Five team in the regular season.
    • $25,000 for the team retaining a 3.0 GPA or higher.
    • $25,000 for a nine-win season. Increasing to $50,000 for a 10-win season.

Additionally, Cumbie is granted a $1.5 million fund by the Bulldogs to pay up to 10 full-time coaches.

Louisiana Tech is Cumbie’s first outing as a head coach, with his only other leadership role coming as an interim in 2021 with Texas Tech.

Cumbie’s 2024 salary is an increase on his deal with Texas Tech. However, it is almost identical to his reported salary in 2018-2020 when he was offensive coordinator with the TCU Horned Frogs.

    Cumbie’s Net Worth

Cumbie’s net worth is currently undisclosed. However, we do have an understanding of how much the Louisiana Tech head coach has earned in his career. USAToday’s Salary Tracker has records of Cumbie’s salaries dating back to 2010.

Since 2010, Cumbie has earned a minimum of $6.3 million in base salary. However, there is an unreported period between 2014 and 2017 when his salary was undisclosed as an assistant with TCU.

Add on the remaining years of Cumbie’s current contract with Louisiana Tech, and he will have earned at least $9.3 million since 2010.

Additionally, Cumbie was a player and went undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2005. He had stops with the Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Avengers, Baltimore Ravens, and San Angelo Stampede Express before becoming head coach of the Stampede Express in 2009. These salaries are not public knowledge.
