Colorado dual-threat and Heisman winner Travis Hunter has earned recent media attention once again following comments made ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Hunter is currently projected by many to go as a top-five pick in this year’s draft, with CBS and PFN mocking him to the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, respectively.

Fans React to Travis Hunter Retirement Threat
In a recent interview with Garrett Podell of CBS Sports, Hunter — who won the Heisman playing as both a wide receiver and a cornerback — revealed that he would rather retire from football than not be able to play snaps on both sides of the ball.
“It’s never playing football again,” Hunter told CBS Sports last week. “Because I’ve been doing it my whole life, and I love being on the football field. I feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball, so I really enjoy doing it.”
This earned him a fair amount of flak from NFL fans, who claim that such a statement just weeks before the NFL Draft could tank his stock significantly.
That was not so bright to say before the draft. You play where they pay you to play.

Cleveland Browns General Manager Dismisses Claims.
According to Cleveland Browns General Manager Andrew Berry — who currently has first refusal on Hunter ahead of the draft, with Cam Ward projected to go first — Hunter is extremely capable of playing both positions.
“In terms of Travis Hunter, cornerback or receiver, the answer is ‘yes.’ He can play both, and I think that’s what makes him special,” Berry said during the NFL Combine.
But is Hunter tanking his draft stock?
“He’s lying because his performance on each side of the field will not be at its best if he’s using energy to play both sides of the ball all game. Plus, he’s gonna be risking injury. No way he expects to be a full-time player on each side of the field. (I’m sure he plays both at times),” another fan claimed. However, some agreed with Hunter’s sentiment.
“I mean, him playing both sides of the ball is what made him a top-five pick in this draft, so I mean he has a point,” one fan wrote in response.
The last player to play both offense and defense in the NFL was Los Angeles Chargers fullback and defensive lineman Scott Matlock, who recorded more than 40 snaps on both sides of the ball.
However, with current draft projections and Hunter’s own claims, we may yet see another in 2025 in Travis Hunter.
