Week 2 of the college football season is here, and an interesting matchup on Saturday will be SMU vs. Baylor. The No. 17-ranked SMU Mustangs are coming off a 42-13 win over East Texas A&M and will be looking to continue their positive momentum. Conversely, the Baylor Bears are coming off a difficult 38-24 loss to Auburn.
Heading into the game, SMU is the favorite as the ranked team in the matchup. However, it could be a closer game than many people expect.

SMU vs. Baylor Key Players to Watch
Heading into the 2025 season, there were many fans and media members who were expecting SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings to step into the upper echelon of college QBs. Last season, he had a breakout year, completing 247 of 380 passing attempts for 3245 yards and 23 TDs. In Week 1, he had a strong performance, completing 22 of 30 passing attempts for 260 yards and two TDs.

While there is a lot of hype around Jennings, Baylor’s QB, Sawyer Robertson, is also coming off a strong performance. In a losing effort, Robertson completed 27 of 48 passing attempts for 419 yards and three TDs.
In a game between two dynamic quarterbacks, the key could be which one is able to continue their dominance for a second straight week.

Picks and Predictions for SMU vs. Baylor
Heading into this game, the SMU Mustangs are the favorites. They are coming off a win and, as a result, are ranked within the AP Top 25. Conversely, Baylor is coming off a loss to an unranked opponent. The key to the game will be which team can do better at shutting down the opposing team’s quarterback.
Both quarterbacks performed well in Week 1, but SMU has defensive tools that are more likely to shut down Baylor’s offense the other way around. This is still likely to be a close matchup, but we are picking SMU to come out on top on Saturday.
The game is scheduled to kick off at Noon ET on Saturday.
