As many had expected, Sam Leavitt has announced that he will be entering the transfer portal once it opens on January 2. This announcement came soon after he was a no-show at the team’s banquet. He has had a disappointing season with the Sun Devils, with his season ending with an injury that had to be fixed with surgery.
His decision had been long coming, as many believed he would leave after that season-ending injury. However, fans were not impressed with his announcement, with many slamming him for quitting on the team on the X post.
“Skattebo would never,” one fan said.
“Quitter,” another person pointed out.
“Sam is either looking for a fresh start or more money. Maybe both. It appears something has gone awry behind the scenes. All the haters will begin to blame Dilly or blame Sam. Perhaps the relationship has run its course. If Sam wants out, then go! It’s that simple,” another person noted.
“I think we all knew Sam may leave. The issue is he let his teammates and coach down last night not showing up to banquet as a team captain. Be there for your teammates. No one would blame him for leaving when Tyson will be gone and roster rebuilding,” said another person.
“Never wanted a guy to fail as much as him. He would have been the top QB in the draft had he not gotten hurt. NIL money must be way more than what asu could give to this deva,” said another X user.
“No guts to face team at team banquet either. Good riddance. Like Dilly says, we only want players who want to be here,” one Sun Devils fan stated.

Report Says Sun Devils Head Coach Wished Sam Leavitt Well During Team Banquet
Sam Leavitt was the most notable absence during that annual end-of-season banquet, as he was the only captain not present. Despite this, his achievements with the team was still recognized during the event, according to Arizona State insider Chris Karpman.
“Sam Leavitt was the lone captain not at ASU’s banquet tonight, per several people in attendance. The other captains went on stage individually. When it came time to honor Leavitt, (Kenny) Dillingham told the audience that he ‘wished him well in whatever his future may hold,'” said KarPman.
He added that Dillingham told the audience that it would be “cowardly” not to mention the quarterback while also recognizing the other captains who were all present.
