The Florida State football community received shocking news late Sunday night when freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard was shot while visiting family in Havana, Florida.
What should have been a quiet night turned tragic for Pritchard, a former star recruit out of Sanford’s Seminole High School, when he was shot outside the Havana Heights Apartments.
He was transported by ambulance from the shooting scene where he was taken to Tallahassee for emergency surgery, and according to the latest information from FSU officials, he is currently in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition.

Ethan Pritchard, an exemplary freshman linebacker for FSU, was shot while in a vehicle near the Havana Heights Apartments in Havana, Florida, approximately 17 miles from campus on a trip to visit family. First responders arrived shortly after 10 p.m. and found Pritchard injured, yet breathing, before quickly transporting him via ambulance to a Tallahassee hospital.
By Monday morning, the university informed that Pritchard was in the intensive care unit, in critical but stable condition. Several reports said that an overnight surgical procedure has taken place, but there have been no further medical updates given.
The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Department stated that the shooting is an active investigation and that it took place in Pritchard’s vehicle, which was parked outside the apartment complex.

Ethan Pritchard arrived at Florida State with sky-high expectations and a resumé of on-field dominance. At 6-foot-2 and 224 pounds, he inked his name with FSU from Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida after emerging as one of the state’s premier defensive prospects.
Pritchard was a consensus four-star recruit by all major outlets, sitting at No. 27 overall among linebackers according to Rivals while also holding a spot in the top 100 overall players statewide. He made a big impact at Seminole; he and his team ended the 2024 year with a 10-2 record along with a second consecutive trip to the regional finals, while earning 39 tackles and seven tackles for loss in just nine games that season.
Pritchard also recorded a massive 75 tackles with 11 tackles for loss and was seen as a hard-hitting, sideline-to-sideline player in junior year.
Pritchard committed to Florida State in October 2023, signing with FSU over teams like Miami and UCF.
