‘I Didn’t Fire My Dad’ — Shilo Sanders Cracks Fans Up Over Coach Prime’s Impact on His NFL Draft Process

The NFL Draft was meant to be a proud and joyful moment for the Sanders family—a time to celebrate years of hard work and dedication. But instead, it turned into a moment of deep reflection.

As Shedeur Sanders was in the midst of a slide down draft boards, his brother, Shilo, was also waiting to hear his name called. He recently hired a new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to help represent him. Does that mean he parted ways with his dad, Deion Sanders? However, in a post-draft interview from home, he clarified that he didn’t fire his dad.

Shilo Sanders Addresses ‘Firing’ Coach Prime Rumors

Despite his talent, Shilo Sanders went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. After signing as an undrafted free agent, though, Sanders will have his shot at a roster spot with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

According to several reports, it wasn’t the team that approached him—it was his new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who made it happen. Without that push, Sanders might not have landed anywhere at all.

After that, some fans wondered if Sanders had parted ways with his father, Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders. This speculation started after Shilo jokingly mentioned during the draft that he had “fired” his dad as his agent.

He also joked about how his father’s attempts to represent the family didn’t quite work out, especially after watching his younger brother slide round after round.

However, a few days later, Sanders provided clarity in a post-draft interview.

“I’m just grateful the Bucs gave me this opportunity,” he said. “I didn’t fire my dad. When you know God got your back, God put us in the best positions for the best opportunities.”

His words may not have fully clarified Deion’s role in his career, but one thing was clear — there’s no rift in their relationship. Sanders wanted fans to know that the bond with his father remains strong.

Shilo, who had an impressive 2023 season with 70 tackles, one interception, three pass breakups, and four forced fumbles in just 11 games, now hopes to carry that momentum into Tampa Bay.

If he performs like that again, he’ll do more than just make a team — he’ll keep the Sanders DB legacy shining bright in the NFL.
